Mombo Camp is located on Chiefs Island, the largest landmass in the Delta and is widely considered one of the best Okavango Delta Camps for it’s incredible game viewing and luxurious accommodation. You could probably judge a safari camp not by the sheets but by the stories you take away once you leave. By that measure, if you do one safari in your life, it should be here.
Mombo has nine luxuriously furnished tents raised off the ground. The guests’ rooms and connecting walkways rise up to six feet above the ground, allowing game to wander freely through the camp while at the same time allowing for guest safety. The canvas rooms are spacious and well appointed. They feature en suite facilities and an additional outdoor shower for those who enjoy a shower under the stars and plunge pool. Guests can see out onto the savannah from every spot in the tent: even the mirrors in the bathrooms reflect the outside, so you can see giraffes and zebras while brushing your teeth.
The main area is large indeed, with a couple of beautifully furnished seating areas and a library with a good selection of reference books. A well stocked bar area, main eating area and open air boma all have incredible views over the waterways. Dining is not communal and unlike other camps, you do have a menu from which to choose.
Renowned as one of the best game viewing areas in Africa, activities at Mombo Camp completely focus on game drives, even though you will see water in the area at times.
“If you are toying with the idea of Mombo but are unsure, just do it.” Conde’ Neste Traveler
